USS Shanghai

Exploration is the driving force of Starfleet, the core and ever-present principle born into every Starfleet Officer. To explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before – that is what we are driven to do. To this end, Starfleet has set about new Projects to further its exploration goals.

The Rimward Exploration Initiative, more commonly called REI or the Initiative, is one such project. It is a Federation push to explore out towards the edge of the Milky Way Galaxy. This Initiative is made up of Twenty-Six (26) Federation Member and Allied systems with the hope that exploration of the younger parts of the galaxy will help provide new and exciting glimpses of our universe. The Auriga Section of the Perseus Arm is the first step in the exploration. Twelve sectors of void space separate the nearest Federation Sector to the Auriga-Perseus, meaning the area has been mostly unseen by anything other than long range probes until now.

Led by the USS Shanghai, the Initiative is a joint operation between Starfleet, her Allies, and Civilian interests trying to explore this new region. The Shanghai is one of the most advanced ships in the fleet, and specifically modified to provide a mobile mothership with a small fleet of runabouts and auxiliary craft to ferry its science teams throughout the region, and carrying the Fighters and Marines make sure that they are safe doing so. Based out of the small Seppala Station, and with only a few other ships in the region the stage is set to begin a brave new exploration.

The USS Shanghai is an exploration focused sim, set just beyond the known galaxy. The sim hopes to foster an environment where players can help build our little section of the world, from helping design alien worlds and phenomena, to the civilizations and technologies they’ve discovered, and the exploration of characters within that setting. We are always looking for new members, so if you find yourself interested in the idea, send us a message or application!

Captain Sun Mei Xiang
Commanding Officer

Sun Mei Xiang is a historian, a martial artist, a former marine, a fighter pilot, and proudly serves as the Commanding Officer of the USS Shanghai-A. Starting her career as a Marine Fighter Pilot, she is not a traditional Starfleet Captain - and had to learn command in a much more round about way than many officers. This gave her a unique, if often less than polished, command style.

Major Dren Fyntar
Marine Commanding Officer

The product of Angosian military bio-engineering Fyntar was once an elite, deadly and relentless soldier.
Following extensive de-conditioning most of these abilities have been removed. However, he remains a highly effective operator in any combat situation.

Has a wide range of experience, with over twenty five years spent in the military.
He requires a monthly inoculation to maintain his biological chemical balance and counter the carcinogenic effects of the de-conditioning treatments. Additionally he has regular counseling sessions to aide his ongoing psychological recovery.

Professionally he is a solid leader, however in personal relationships he still suffers the residual effects of Angosian physiological conditioning and can be almost Vulcan in dealing with his personal emotions.
