History

History:

VRaxer was born the third son of the House of Gaius-Fortem, a subsidiary of House Gaius, a life which came with all the trappings of power, prestige and traditions of Imperial service. House Gaius-Fortem took its obligations seriously and for six generations, at the age of ten, it sent its sons to an elite and prestigious private Military Academy, Phi’Lasasam Liasnen Thrai, the Warriors of the Wolf, located on the distant planet of Farlorn.

The Phi’Lasasam focused on strict discipline and service, its tutors were exclusively former Command Rank officers and the academy sought to turn young members of the Romulan elite into the Empire’s future leaders. Situated on a harsh planet, at the outer edges of the Empire, life at the Phi’Lasasam Liasnen Thrai was made deliberately tough. Daily physical and martial training were combined with studies on Romulan history, tradition and superiority; loyalty, duty and service to the Empire

The Phi’Lasasam Liasnen Thrai conducted its own rite prior to the traditional Pylanazi. In a tradition, unknown to most but stretching back to their Vulcan heritage, the students were taken to the wildness and left to fend for themselves for thirty days. It was not an event to be taken lightly, death by accident or animal attack were rare but not unknown. It was a true test of the mettle of future citizens.

Only after successfully completing the trial were students allowed to participate in the Academy’s formal Pylanazi ceremony which was held twice a year and attended by the family of the students, along with many alumni members of the military and political powerblocks.

It was at the academy ceremony that the new young citizen’s future would be discussed by their family and their patrons. Careers would be planned and agreed upon, future allegiances and alliances were set out, lives and careers mapped out.

With his eldest brother set to inherit the lands and power of the House, his middle brother and VRaxer were channeled into military service in the Star Navy.

Both served with distinction and his brother rose to command a battle cruiser, before being killed during the Dominion War. VRaxer was assigned aboard a vessel used by the Tal Diann for several missions and came to the attention of the vessel’s senior Military Intelligence Officer, who became a mentor to the young officer. After completing his required five years of Serona, VRaxer remained in the Star Navy and was recruited into the Tal Diann.

After extensive training over several years he was assigned as an Intelligence Officer aboard a ship that escorted Romulan Ministry of Trade Delegations on trips beyond the Empire’s borders. His actual duties involved espionage and intelligence gathering operations on foreign forces. As well as monitoring the activities of the delegation members themselves and the Tal Diann’s rivals the Tal Shiar..

This led to many trips outside of the Empire and exposed VRaxer to different species and cultures, including those of the Federation, Cardassian Union and the Klingon Empire. The overall effect of this exposure was to reinforce his strongly held belief in the superiority of the Romulan Empire and its rightful place as the foremost power within the Alpha Quadrant.

A gifted Officer and Intelligence specialist VRaxer steadily rose through the ranks. An assignment back to Romulus as a SubCommander within the Office of Stellar Forces Intelligence at Naval Headquarters allowed him to find time for his personal life.

As part of an agreement between their houses, in 2298, VRaxer married Kimar of House s’Karon, another client of House Gaius. Kimar had her own career in the Star Navy and their first few years were often spent apart. But when her service was completed in 2306 they brought a house on Romulas and settled into married life.

In 2320 he returned to active service as Commander of a Preax Class Intelligence scout ship. He spent the next twenty years perfecting long range infiltration and reconnaissance missions deep with Federation territory, planting cloaked monitoring satellites around Starfleet starbases. A rumor persists within Fleet intelligence circles that Karon trailed a Starfleet battle group during a five day live-fire training exercise; stayed undetected for the duration of the exercise and then collected parts from detonated photon torpedoes after the Starfleet vessels had departed.

Starting in 2340 he spent ten years as an instructor at the Tal Diann Intelligence Academy, passing on his infiltration techniques to other commanders.

In 2350 he went back to active service as Aide Du Camp for the Admiral of a Star Navy Battle Fleet. In 2368 he was briefed into the mission to invade Vulcan led Commander Sela following the meetings between Senator Pardek and Spock of Vulcan, a former Starfleet Officer, who misguidedly believed they could reunify the Romulan and Vulcan peoples..

VRaxer bravely chose to counsel against the operation, seeing it as ill conceived, poorly planned, with little likelihood of success. Moreover that it was probably being orchestrated from the behind the scenes by the Tal’Shiar. A path which initially resulted in several heated arguments with his superiors and threats of demotion.

When the invasion did indeed fail and the Tal’Shair publically denounced the Star Navy for the blunder, several embarrassed senior officers of the general staff were forced to resign. One of their replacements knew of Vraxer’s prior opposition and rewarded him with a promotion to Admiral, becoming one for the youngest officers ever to hold that rank.

Assigned a Task Force of his own VRaxer was charged with patrolling the border Rayern Transit Corridor, which he did with his usual gift for intelligence gathering and set up a system for monitoring vessels in and around Federation Starbase 14.

Having spent much of his career spying on the Federation and Starfleet he had realized that the Federation posed little threat to Romulus but also realized that while outwardly peaceful they would fight tenaciously against any invader.

During the Dominion War VRaxer was a supporter of the alliance with the Federation, predicting that the Dominion would never honor a non-aggression treaty and if given a free hand they, along with their Cardassians and Breen allies, would quickly conquer the Federation, then turn their greedy eyes towards the Empire.

He also believed that it was an opportunity for the Empire, knowing that the war would likely drag on, the Federation would take the heaviest losses and that once the Dominion was defeated the Federation would shy away from further conflict for a generation or more. Romulus would be in a position in the future to expand its power by annexing several key Federation systems.

In 2380 he was assigned as Second Deputy Chief of Stellar Intelligence at the Tal Diann Headquarters on Romulus

A rising force with the Tal Diann, VRaxer’s path of Imperial service appeared set, further advancement with the agency, perhaps leading to a position as Tal Dian legate.

However, the Hobus Supanova in 2387 changed all that. Fortunately the family was spending time at the Karon family Hunting Lodge in the Peren system and escaped the devastation but the rest of their family was wiped out when Romulas was destroyed.

With the death of his elder brother, along with his brother’s heirs, the remaining family estates and titles came to VRaxer. With so many of the previous leaders gone the Empire entered a period of turmoil and chaos. Order and stability had to be restored, a new senate convened and work began to return the Empire to its former glory.

With the agreement and assistance from the Tal Diann, who never miss an opportunity to have friends in the Senate; VRaxer entered the political arena. With the old family seat gone with Romulas, he used the Karon family ancestral standing in the Perene system and his old almer mater Phi’Lasasam Liasnen Thrai in the Farlorn system to launch his bid. He was duly elected as Senator for the Tullus Sector, consisting of Drovna; Farlorn, Peren and Pollus, in 2388.

Shortly after his election VRraxer as nominated and confirmed as Ambassador to the Trigati Republic. Allied with the Federation the Trigati Republic were also prominent trading partners with the Empire and one of the few species allowed to transit through Romulan territory. The Trigati are also infamous for their system of governance, diplomacy, espionage and defense, seeing little separation between branches and are just as likely to spy on their friends as they are their enemies. Whom better to deal with a sly and cunning species than a Tal Diann Intelligence officer…

Whilst a serving Senator VRaxer retains his Admiral rank and has a Tal Diann Khellian Class Heavy Cruiser: The T’Rigamek at his disposal as his diplomatic courier.

Shortly after his confirmation there was a mysterious explosion on a shuttle VRaxer was traveling on. It was sheer luck that the craft and all its occupants survived. Analysis of the crash indicated the possibility of an explosive placed within one of the impulse engine power relays. However, the technician who worked on that system, during a scheduled maintenance interval just two days before, went missing and was never able to be interviewed. An internal Tal Diann report was unable to rule out the possibility of an assignation attempt, likely suspects included several rivals for the Ambassador’s position and the Tal Shiar, all of whom may have resented VRaxer’s appointment.

As a Client of House Gaius Vraxer stands with them on many matters, he is sympathetic to the Nej’ahar but is most prominently a member of the Jaridan coalition and is known as hawk on any matter that involves support for the military.

In his personal life VRaxer splits his time between several homes, a Senatorial Compound on Rator III; the Family Hunting Lodge on Drovna; the T’Rigamek and the Romulan Embassy on Trigati Prime. His wife accompanies him the majority of the time, Kimar adapting smoothly into the role of Ambassador’s wife and hostess at diplomatic social functions.

They have two children, a son, Varentha and a daughter Alai. Both have completed their own Seronas. Varentha has continued his service with the Star Navy, while Alai has become a lawyer and assists her father with legal matters.
