ON:
<SB400 - Gym>

Mike had been on the treadmill for twenty-two minutes and was working up
quite a sweat. It was nice to be released from the Doctor's care following
the latest encounter with the Pirates in the Triangle. A good workout
always cleared the mind, and since everything on board the station was
quiet, now was the time.

As he ran, he did think about a few things that bugged him. Janice was
one. Not that SHE was a bother, but that he hadn't continued with the
budding romance years ago. Now they were married...and they
had a child together. A lot to take in. He was also thinking about the
station. After everything done in the last several months, it was still
not at full strength.

As he neared the twenty-five minute mark, he heard the comm system beep...

Mark: Ops to Captain...Admiral.

Bremer: (As he ran) Bremer here.

Mark: Sir, you have an incoming Priority One transmission from Captain
T'von of the USS Lancelot.

Bremer: Understood, I'll be there in a moment. <close comm>

Mike hoped off the treadmill and shut it down. Grabbing his towel and
wrapping it around his neck. He jogged out of the gym and down the
corridor to the turbolift. Within moments, the lift delivered him into
Ops. He did kind of wish he wasn't in workout clothes and sweaty, but, he
was just going to pass though and into his office. He could grab a quick
shower there...

As he took his seat in his office, the screen came to life. The face of
Captain T'von, a Vulcan, appeared.

T'von: Admiral Bremer, I regret that I must inform you, Commander K'Vada
is dead.

Bremer: (Mike paused, a look of shock on his face. K'Vada, a Klingon
exchange office, was a very close friend of Mike's. They had grown up
together on the Klingon Homeworld...when Mike lived there. They serviced
in the Klingon Defense Force together, and Mike later brought K'Vada into
the 4th Fleet. He'd recently been promoted to XO of the USS Lancelot in
the 3rd Fleet.) How...

T'von: The Lancelot responded to a distress call from the USS Bronco,
under attack by two Gorn Cruisers. The Bronco was evacuating civilians
from the war zone. We destroyed one ship, damaged another. Commander
K'Vada transported aboard the Bronco and started orginizing
and beaming the survivors aboard the Lancelot. While this was on going,
three more Gorn vessels engaged us. They boarded the Bronco as well. While
protecting children, the Gorn commander, Rear Admiral Ssa'ssar shot him
in the back, then murdered the children. They beamed off and destroyed
the ship. We were able to destroy another Gorn vessel before they
withdrew.

Bremer: (His anger growing) Rear Admiral Ssa'ssar, I've heard of him.
Ruthless...

T'von: Yes. He is the area command for the Gorn. We attempted to locate
their base of operations, but met strong resistance. The Lancelot is the
only Excalibur class vessel in the area and we have been ordered back to
Federation controlled space to hold the line.

Bremer: Have you informed his parents.

T'von: Of course, they asked that I inform you. They also wanted me to
tell you, they do not believe he is in Sto'vo'kor.

Bremer: I'll make sure he is. Bremer out. <close comm>

Mike paused a moment, remembering a the last time he and K'Vada talked. He
knew he would need to make sure he friend was with the honored dead, he
would also need to inform General K'Vada, the Klingon Commander stationed
aboard Starbase 400 and the man his friend was named after. The Admiral
stood and headed for the shower...least he could do was be in uniform when
he broke the news to the General...

Mike sat in his office after the shower. He sipped a cup of raktijno and
read a report of the current conflict with the Gorn. Going on for over a
year now, the Gorn had swept into the Cestus system, over running it's
defenses in hours. They had occupied the planet and launched attacks
deeper into Federation space, as far away as DS6, 10 light years away.
Cestus had always been a planet the Gorn wanted, but was within
Federation space. Kirk's battle with the Gorn on Cestus III was
legendary. Starfleet felt a starbase orbiting the planet would help, but
even still the Gorn marched in. The Fourth Fleet was holding the line
now, and even though a few strikes did occur, the Gorn advance was
halted. Now, Starfleet was pushing to take the territory back.

SB400 was just over six sectors away from the front lines, but could
easily become a rally point for ships heading into the battle zone. This
in turn had prompted Starfleet to send much needed supplies to the
station and it was now back to 80% online...even though crew was about
60%.

Gorn vessels were tough, Destroyers, Cruisers, and Battleships, and the
Gorn themselves were strong warriors. Mike knew this well, one of his best
Marine Sergeants, Agex, is Gorn.

Mark: <over comm> Admiral to Ops. <close comm>

Bremer: (Entering Ops) Report.

Harrison: There's a ship coming at warp 9.7, heading directly for the
station. It's less then a minute from the outer marker.

Barrett: That puts it's ETA here at just under three minutes...

Bremer: Type of ship?

Harrison: Unknown.

Bremer: Hail them.

Barrett: (Pauses) No response.

Bremer: Open a channel.

Barrett: Open.

Bremer: Approaching vessel, this is Admiral Bremer of Starbase 400. Slow
your approach to three-quarter impulse power, now.

Barrett: No reply.

Dow: (Over comm from the Luna) Admiral, we are in position to
intercept the approaching ship.

Bremer: Make it so.

Dow: Yes sir. <close comm> Conn, intercept course, maximum warp. Ensign,
ready weapons.

Sorak: Yes sir.

<SB400 Ops>

Jones: Luna has gone to warp.

Bremer: Mark, beam over to the Pegasus and move her away from the station
and be ready just in case.

Mark: <Over comm> Sogh Varn report to the Pegasus!
<close comm>

Barrett: Sir, Commander K'Temoc reports the Yorktown is also in route, ETA
fifteen minutes.

Harrison: Admiral, I'm picking up high levels of proto-matter and
anti-matter aboard that ship!

Bremer: <Over comm> Attention all hands, an un-identified ship is on a
collision course with the station. Everyone report to your evacuation
stations. Security and Marines will coordinate. This is not a drill <close
comm>

Fultian-Bremer: I'll see to that. (She left Ops)

Harrison: Vessel's ETA one minute, forty-nine seconds.

Bremer: Raise shields, arm weapons. Fire a warning shot across it's bow.

Harrison: Firing. (pause) Still approaching.

<USS Luna Bridge>

Sorak: Within range sir.

Dow: Lock onto their engines, fire torpedoes!

Sorak: Firing!

Three blue quantum torpedoes burst from the Luna's forward launchers,
streaking across space and impacted with the aft section of the ship...

<SB400 Ops>

Harrison: Captain, two bio-signs on that ship. Both Gorn!

Bremer: Lock phasers.

<USS Luna Bridge>

Sorak: Their speed is holding, and shields at forty-seven percent.

Dow: Hellfire torpedoes, full spread.

An additional three green torpedoes burst from the Luna, and speed toward
their target. As they neared, they skipped past it's shields and impacted
directly to the ship's hull. It suddenly dropped out of warp, within
visual sight of the station, and started to spin...

<SB400 Ops>
Harrison: Picking up internal explosions...

Bremer: Tractor beam...deflect that ships away.

Harrison: Reversing polarity on the beam...

The stations tractor beam reached out, grabbed the ship, and deflected it
away...just as it exploded. The station shook violently from the
shock-wave. Several consoles shorted out and lights went dark as people
were knocked around...

Barrett: (Pulling herself up) Emergency power online...inertial dampers to
manual...

Harrison: (As the shaking stopped) Damage reports coming in from all over
the station. Luna and Pegasus report moderate damage to their shields,
but all systems online and ready.

Bremer: (Stepping to the MSD) Route the damage reports here and get
Damage Control teams to work at once. Have Dr. Mclintock report on
casualties. Inform Pegasus, Yorktown, and Luna to patrol the system and
look out for anymore Gorn or unknown vessels, and put me though to
Starfleet Command.

Commanding Starbase 400
(USS Pegasus, USS Yorktown, USS Intrepid, USS Luna)

< Bremer Quarters – SB 400>
Janice Fultain- Bremer sat in chair in the Bremer living room, on Star Base 400,
she was in uniform, besides for her Jacket, which was tossed casually across
another chair. Her chest was covered with a lite receiving blanket.
Brian, the new baby was in the middle of his feeding, when Emmaline, one of her
four year olds ran into the room. It always seemed like the twins waited until
she was breast feeding the new baby to act up.
“Mommmmmyyyyy, where is Daddy? Marc is scaring me with that snake!”
“Marc if you hit your sister with that toy snake I am going to put it in the
airlock!” She glared at the four year old who was severly taunting her. “
Marc I mean it this time. “
The two stopped in front of her “ Where is daddy?”
Janice sighed wishing that Marc was with him “ He went for a work out. Go finish
your breakfast , its almost time for school.”
The twins both stood directly in front of there mother wide eyed as the baby
opened his eyes a little and looked at them .
“Is Brian having his breakfast too?” Marc asked taking in his brother.
“Does he have to go school too?” Emmaline chimed in moving closer.
“ Yes, and no he is a baby. Grammy will stay with him. Now go eat.” She pointed
to toward the table where the twins had abandonded their breakfast of oatmeal and
cinnamon toast to misbehave.
“Do you think Marc would like to see my snake Mommy? “ Marc asked ignoring the
order to back and finish his breakfast.
“ No Marc.. Brian does’nt want to see your snake, and Dad told you not to scare
Emmy with it anymore.”
Janice sighed a breath of relief . K’wor, Mike’s older son was repreiving her.
He bent down and looked at the four year old in the face “ You should listen to
your mother.” He looked at Emmaline as well
Mike’s children were doing their best to cope with the situation, and were being
more than gracious, and had even helped with the twins and the new baby.
“Thanks K’wor.” Janice always tried to recognize that she noticed and appreciated
their efforts
“ There is oatmeal in there if your hungry. Becca is still getting dressed. I
hope she hurries. “

K’wor nudged the twins back to their oatmeal , and took Marc’s snake away from him
“ If you eat all of your breakfast I will give this back to you, if not I will
take it to Dad.”
Janice giggled as Marc took up his spoon, and begin to eat in a hurry. Mike’s
oldest son was a lot of like him.
A few calm minutes elasped, and Janice finished feeding the baby. Becca came out
of her room.

Janice smiled “ That top looks good on you. “ During the chaos of the trip to
the Raeyan Sector, she had managed to take Becca on a shopping trip to the Randa
Islands, fashion capitol of the Raeyan Sector.
Lessons in charm, proper eyeliner application, and walking in high heels were
things only another woman could teach.
Janice was not at all sure he noticed , but at thirteen his daughter was a
beautiful young woman.
Becca smiled at her “ Thanks. Where is Dad?” She looked around the room.

“Working out.” K’wor called from the breakfast table. “ You should eat something
before school.”
“In a minute. “ The girl giggled
Janice burped Brian and laid him over her shoulder, and noticed a baby slober
stain on her uniform blouse it would have to be changed.
“ Becca would you hold him for a moment for me ? “

Miranda had said that letting her share in some of the responsiblities of caring
for the new infant would give her an idea of consquiences of certain behaviors.
Becca took the infant in her arms. “He is so big.”
“ Don’t I know it.” Janice replied , and turned into the bedroom, for a moment,
and then returned wearing a fresh blouse, a slightly more composed.
Becca giggled again. “ K’wor look he stares like Dad.” Becca walked to the table
and showed the sleepy baby to the boy, who nodded.
Marc held up his empty bowl. “Can I have back my snake now?”
Silently K’wor pointed to Marc’s half full milk glass.
Janice went to the replicator “ Ice water.” She was tired and thirsty, but before
she take a sip her com badge beeped.
“ General report to operations ASAP.” Mike ‘s voice was cold proffesional.
She sighed. “On my way.”
Janice was thankful her grand mother had decided to stay on the station for a bit
to help with the twins, new baby, and Janice’s return to work.
She grabbed her jacket, tapped her combadge. “ Janice Fultain Bremer to Denise
Fultain.”
Her grandmother grumbled. “ yes Janice.”
“I have to get to ops ASAP Granny.”
“ I will be there in a moment.” The old woman replied in her soft Southern voice.
She fastend her uniform jacket, and took her water glass, and drained it,
Simutaniously the twins grabbed her.
“ Mommy is grammy coming?” Emmaline asked
The old woman appeared in the room. “ All right General. Go do your duty.” She
peeled Marc off his mother.
“ Thank you Grammy “ Janice dispeared into the transporter beam, appearing in the
ops area.
<SB 400 ops area>
“Admiral” She said proffesionaly. The transition from huband /wife to Commanding
Officer/Executive Officer was not always easy for either one of them, but when the
position came open , and Mike offered it to her she accepted with out hestitation.
They spent many nights discussing it, and it was the one way for the two of them
to
“General we have a situation.” He nodded for her to listen to Harison who was
speaking.
She could see the deeper concern in his eyes that told her something was deeply
wrong.

ON:

An attempted suicide attack on the station was not how Mike wanted to
start his day. To make it worse, the news of another dead friend was
getting to him. Even though he new death was a natural part of life, in
the last few years so many of his family and friends had died. Even though
now he was married, found out he had a four year old son, and now a new
baby...the loss was still stinging.

His convocation with Starfleet Command wasn't a very pleasant one. Not
only were they very concerned over the attack, but at first they tried to
place the blame on Mike for allowing the Gorn ship to get in as close as
it had. Mike thought to himself, wondering if he'd slipped some, if he
could of done more, but short of blowing the ship apart on approach, the
options were limited. Mike then had to argue to get a chance to take the
fight back to the Gorn. In the end, Starfleet backed down.

Bremer: +TAPS+ Senior Staff, report to Tactical Operations. <end comm>

Tactical Ops was a large room on Deck 2, Section A1. The facility was
mainly used during Fleet Operations to help coordinate ships and monitor
enemy movements. The large room featured a wall mounted display in the
front with a floor mounted computer terminal. Along the back wall were
several other monitors and computer access terminals. Near the back wall
were two full size conference tables for meetings or 'paper' work.

Tactical Operations, sometimes referred to as CIC (Combat Information
Center), uses a dedicated sensor suite, with input from the rest of the
station's sensor and communications arrays. Around the room are other
monitors and displays. These show a vast amount of information, from
tactical data on enemy ships and fleet movements to long range sensor data
and fleet communications. Aboard SB400, Tactical Operations is used during
battle situations, however there is at least one Strategic Operations
Officer or Intelligence Officer stationed here at all times.

As the Staff entered the room, they took seats at one of the tables and
waiting for everyone else. Finally, Mike began the meeting.

Bremer: Good morning. As you all know, a Gorn vessel attempted to
penetrate the station's defenses today. Scans show two Gorn were aboard,
as well as anti-matter and proto-matter. If they would of rammed the
Station, most of not all of 400 would be gone now. (pauses so everyone
can soak that information in)

Bremer: Starfleet Command has asked us to proceed to the Gorn border,
locate the origin of their proto-matter supply, and destroy it. Along the
way, if we able to locate Gorn Rear Admiral Ssa'ssar, we are to take him
into custody. To aid in this, we are being sent a new ship to be based
out of SB400, the USS Intrepid. I'm assigning the Luna to remain here,
help protect the station and Kaleb IV. The new Colony sight only has the
station and the Luna for protection. That means Pegasus, Yorktown, and
Intrepid will proceed on this mission.

Dufray: Starfleet Intel have any idea on where this proto-matter facility
is?

Bremer: No, so we're hoping the debris from their ship will help lead us
in the right direction.

Mark: Proto-matter is such a volatile substance, it'll have to be a
secure and shielded facility. It's probably a safe bet that it's deep
within Gorn space too.

Bremer: Any information from the debris yet?

Cedars: No sir, there is very little left of the ship. We are still
recovering, but course projections to lead it back into Gorn space, the
planet Gor'vac.

Harrison: They would of had to pass though Romulan space if they came on
a direct course.

Dow: I'll speak with Commander Tamarith and see if she can find out
anything for us. But the Gorn and Romulans have a trade agreement, so it
might be hard to find out about one ship within their space.

Bremer: Ask her, anything they can provide would be helpful. Ms. Paris,
I'd like you to work with Dr. Mclintock and update the station's
evacuation procedures...just in case.

Fultian-Bremer: Ship assignments?

Bremer: You'll command the Intrepid, with Major General Dufray's teams
aboard. (Looks at his MCO) I suggest you include Gunnery Sergeant Agtx, a
Gorn Marine just might come in handy.

Dufray: Agreed. Captain Chricton and I will put teams together and get
the Intrepid ready. I'd also like to request Ensign Cedars come with us,
his Infiltration and Intel skills might be useful too. When will she
arrive?

Bremer: (Nodding about Cedars going with the Marines on the Intrepid)
About six hours, with a skeleton crew. Her CO had just retired and her XO
was due to take command, but was injured when the ship was caught in an
ion storm. With the current situation, Starfleet decided to transfer most
of the crew to another ship while their new CO recovered.

Dufray: Understood.

Fultian-Bremer: When she arrives I'll have her docked into bay five for
any repairs before we go.

Bremer: (Nods and smiles) Dow, Mark, Harrison, and Paris will be assigned
to the Pegasus, with myself in command. The Yorktown will have Commander
K'Temoc in command with Barrett assigned there. I am hoping Starfleet
will be gracious enough to send us our new Chief Engineer, Strategic
Operations Officer, Chief Science Officer, and/or Chief Operations
Officer, before we depart. Any questions?

No one spoke up...

Bremer: All right, dismissed. We'll meet again at 1800 hours.

Everyone stood and filed out of the room, Janice paused and Mike stopped
Miranda...

Bremer: Would you mind meeting me in my Officer in thirty minutes, before
meeting with Dr. Mclintock?

Paris: Of course.

Mike nodded as she left...

Fultian-Bremer: Are you okay?

Bremer: I was about to ask you the same thing.

Fultian-Bremer: I'm fine, the children are fine, all in school...except
Brian who's probably sleeping right now.

Bremer: Good.

Fultian-Bremer: What about you?

Bremer: I'm all right, K'Vada's death just hit me hard.

Fultian-Bremer: That why you're meeting with Miranda?

Bremer: Yeah...loosing so many people I care about over the last few years.

Fultian-Bremer: (Kissing him) I'm not going anywhere.

She rubbed his shoulder and arm, then left Tactical Ops too. Mike looked
back up at the display which showed the projected path of the Gorn ship
and it's location where it exploded. It's closeness to the station did
worry Mike, and he vowed not to let anything get that close to hurting his
family, which he considered his crew as well as his wife and children,
ever again.

<Night before Mike's Post>

Miranda and Charles moves thru the holodeck, their
blades at ready, as the used the false moonlight to
guide their movements, their face's painted but
streaked with sweat. From two directions multiple
foes appeared and with silent nods they crossed paths
and moved to engage. The sounds of metal against
metal and the grunts as they both fought hard, the
battle raged on for a bit with only limited talk
happening and that mostly from the computer as it
counted kills.

The computer sounded a chime as the last of the
holodeck combatants fell to the ground beneath
Miranda's blade. She turned to Charles her eyes
sparkling in excitement, he bowed slightly to her and
she returned his bow, before they turned their blades
against each other. Unlike the earlier battle this
was not to death, it was to disarmament.

The moved battling each other each trying to gain the
upper hand, each trying to win, their love and trust
of each other intense, as well as their training.
Charles loved to challenge Miranda and she knew it and
loved it.

She slipped on a bit of the jungle floor beneath them
tumbling to the ground, Charles moved and pinned her
to the ground, his eyes triumph as he pinned her. "I
win."

Miranda laughed and nodded, "Agreed this time."

Charles backed off and extended Miranda a hand helping
her up. She let him and then leaned in and gave
him a loving kiss on the lips.

Miranda looked at him as she stepped back, "What level
did you have that program on?"

Charles spoke his eyes sparkling a bit, “Lets just say
you were not lagging like you have in the past."

Miranda slapped him playfully but as the chime rang
again they were reminded that others needed the
holodeck. Charles gave the command to close the
program and they made their way off the holodeck.

<Day of The attack>

Miranda woke next to Charles, his body holding hers
tightly against his. She smiled and snuggled closer
feeling happy. Though they had gotten a message
on a secure channel when they had arrived back at
their quarters that had left them talking late into
the night as to what it could mean. Though for now
it had been left as a bridge to cross when they came
to it.

The sound of red alert awoke them.

Charles jumped out of bed as he felt the station rock;
he wasn't due on duty until much later this afternoon
and wanted his rest. He towards his uniform to place
it on, he turned to see Miranda mimicking his actions
as well right now he didn't want to think about what
happened last night only what was happening now. he
tapped his comm badge =/\=Dufray to All Marines 1st
division is on standby for what ever emergency arises,
2nd Division gear up and help with repairs to the

out=/\=

He slipped on the last of his uniform and looked at
Miranda, he reached over and kissed her lightly on the
cheek "I’ve got to run down and find Chricton I’ll be
up in ops ASAP afterwards" Miranda smiled and kissed
him back as she exited the room, Charles could hear
the faint chirp of the comm badge then Janice's voice
ask for assistance Charles shook his head and headed
towards Marine Country.

He was half way there before getting detoured by the
Admiral.=/\=Senior Staff, report to Tactical
Operations.=/\= Charles groaned and mumbled then
tapped his own badge =/\=Dufray to Chricton begin
handling all operations with the marines, I’ve been
called to a Senior Staff meeting, Dufray Out=/\=

Charles took a sharp turn and headed for the turbo
lift. He entered the Tact Ops room a few minutes later
and sat down next to Miranda, taking her hand softly
under the table.

Miranda worked with Janice, a few security officers, medical officers and
marines, who had been pressed into service to help to evacuate the civilians.
Miranda felt a bit of frustration at times with the activities at times being at
almost cross purposes. At one point she was forced to step into the middle
of an arguement between a civilian and a member of the security staff.

The civilain didnt want to leave without some item of importance.

"NO. I am not leaving it behind. I need it."

"Sir, This is an evacuation. We do not have the time needed to help you get it
out of your quarters. Nor do we have the resources to do so."

"I dont care. I am not leaving without it. So someone must help me."

"Sir, I have the authority to arrest and forcibaly remove you from this station."

Miranda walked over her hand going out to touch the security officer's arm lightly
as she stepped in, "Sir. We understand that you do not want to leave. But this
station is now under attack, we have to evacuate for the safety of all. Please
do not force us to use un-needed methods to ensure your safety."

<snip>

<snip>

The shaking of the station stopped and as emergency lights came on the eyes of the
man she had been speaking to widened and he went to a full panic mode.

"You mean this was real..... I thought it was a joke..."

His eyes rolled back in his head and he almost fell to the ground but was caught
by Miranda and the security officer who lowered him to the ground. One of the
medical personal came over and Miranda was pulled away to other issues.

TIme: Staff Meeting

.=/\=Senior Staff, report to Tactical

<end snip>

The meeting passed almost too quickly and too slowly for Miranda. There was so
much happening and her mind was still slightly on the evacuation. It had gone
as to be expected at some levels, though so much of it had left her feeling the
need for a better way. That somehow that there had to be a beter way to do
things. But how was the puzzle, and a puzzle she now would be working out with
Dr. Mclintock.

Yet maybe it was too much times around Marine's, she was feeling more and more
that civilians were often an unneccessary risk on stations and ships. But she
also knew they had their rights to live anywhere they so chose.... and some did
choose space stations and the like for their home.

The request by the Captain had surprized her. He was worse then any CO she had
serviced with on seeking help, so she suspected that the issue he was wanting to
talk about had to be pretty major to have him seeking her help.

She agreed and mentally began rearranging her schedule to accomodate the request.
She was not surprized by the fact that Charles had waited for her if anything she
was grateful. She could talk to him in a way she could with few others, both
because of their unique abilities and because of their relationship.

<snip>

Charles looked at Miranda with a raised eyebrow as he
waited for her outside the CIC "what he want?" Miranda
shook her head and motioned for them to walk and speak
at the same time; Charles sighed and knew it was going
to be a long day for them all.

<end snip>

Miranda watched as repair crews moved thru the station as she and Charles walked.
For the moment quiet, but comfortable as they both had assignments to do, yet
also a small window of time.

"Why is it that I am thinking more as Marine, and almost questioning the logic of
having civilians on stations like this?"

Miranda closed her eyes trusting her knowlege to guide her, and Charles to protect
her. she slipped into telepathic discussion as she opened her eyes again to
watch where they were going again, //And how to we protect them.... If it is
truly the Gorn attacking this could end up being a battle that leaves this station
a battle field that few are prepared for.//

Miranda looked at Charles and they both knew that there was no good answer to the
questions at hand. They reached a point that they were going to have to part,
Miranda to her office to begin rescheduling of the staff before she went to her
meeting with the Captain. And Charles to begin his own prepartions, she leaned
into him and stole a kiss for a moment headless of anything but him for those
precious moments of itme.

Lt. Commander Miranda Paris
Counselor
Starbase 400

OFF: Welcome back Lt Coleman as our Chief Science Officer!

ON:

After the briefing, Mike left Tactical Operations and headed back to Ops.
There he was greeted by someone who he hadn't expected to see.

"Captain...Admiral. Lieutenant Coleman reporting for duty sir." Johnathan
Coleman, the former Chief Science Officer who had been transfer and left
the station was back.

"Mr. Coleman, welcome back aboard. I thought you were transfered to the
USS Greensboro." Mike said with a smile and confused tone.

"I was" Coleman replied, "but I continued to request a return to Starbase
400. Finally Starfleet Command agreed."

Mike was glad Coleman was back, a good Science Officer was hard to come
by. Maybe things were looking up. "I want you aboard the Yorktown for the
coming mission, speak with Commander Mark for a briefing."

With a smile, Johnathan nodded. "Aye sir."

Mike nodded back to Coleman and headed into his Office. He had a meeting
with Ms. Paris coming up soon. It was often hard for Mike to talk about
his feelings so he had to gather his thoughts. He trusted Miranda and knew
he needed to get some things off his chest, but he'd dealt with things on
his own, holding them inside, for so long.

As Mike took his seat, he looked at the crayon drawing Marc had made and
Mike framed and hung in his office. He smiled and activated his desk
monitor, waiting for Miranda to arrive.

OFF:
Quickie....tag Miranda!

-Admiral Bremer

<SB 400 Docking Bay 5>

Janice looked over the reports of the engineer.
“The intrepid will be ready for you in an hour Major General.”

She nodded “ Very Good” The Gorn were dangerous, but she the Intrepid was a decent class. It could a handle the fight.

Her combade beeped
<^> Major General Bremer you have Secured Communication, from Marine HQ in your office<^>

Janice sighed, nothing ever good came from them.
<^> Be there in 2 minutes<^>

[Executive's Office SB 400]

Janice moved behind her desk and turned on her screen. The image of Lt. General Acreman sat scornfully on her screen.

“General Bremer good day”

He said coldly. She Acreman did not have a good working relationship: she knew he despised alcoholics, and especially her.

“ Good Day Lt. General Acreman.” There was no inch of personal greeting,

“Major General you are being reassigned to SB 503 as mission advisor effective immediately. The USS Lexington is enroute to pick you up.
Admiral Bremer is being informed through Star Fleet channels.”

“Sir, with all due respect I am the Executive Officer here, I am not in the Marine Corps scope of the authority to be reassigned. “ She reminded hi.

“Wrong as always Fultain. Personnel are transferred as needed right now you are needed as combat advisor over on 503.” This time her enemy had checked and mated her.

Blankly she stared into the screen, once again Acreman was messing with life, because he could not have her, and she hated him for it.
“ I see “

“ You will receive your orders from RADM Mclaughlin, the Commanding officer of Task Force 17. Acreman out .”

<two hours later Bremer Quarters>

Becca sat on the sofa crying, Janice had one arm around her.

Mike held Marc in his lap.

“ I know this is hard, and your dad is going to do everything to see that it
is not for long. “ She looked over at Mike.

“I am, and I will already have messages to Admiral Martens, Admiral Janeway, and others.

Janice hated separating the children, but Mike could not care of all five of them by himself.

“Mommy I don't want to leave Daddy.” Marc held on to his father tightly.

Bremer smiled at him “It won't be for long.”

Janice turned toward Mike. “ He could stay here with his brother and sister.”

Mike looked at her “ Janice are you sure?” Mike looked at her skeptically he could see how hard it was for her to offer to leave their son with him.

She reached over and kissed his cheek “ Yes, he does not want to leave you, and like you said it won't be for long.” She knew how hard it would be for Mike to pull enough strings to get her reassigned from Task Force 17, but she had faith in Admiral's Bremer's abilities.

“Daddy can I stay?” Marc looked at his father.

“Marc you can always stay with me.” Bremer replied, Janice could tell this was going to be hard him, it was hard on her and all of them.

“I have to go pack” She sighed fighting back the tears.

Bremer stood “ Becca, take Emmaline and Marc out for a walk.”

K'wor looked at his father.

“Now” Bremer said sternly.

<a few moments later in their bed room>

“This sucks Mike” She leaned into his arm .

“It won't be for long.” He said then kissed her, this might be the last few moments they would spend alone together before a long separation.

Janice put her arms around him, she could no longer fight back the tears. She did not want to leave, everything she ever wanted in life was right there , but orders were orders, and Bremer would need time to get things fixed.

“ This is going to be so hard” She said holding him in her arms, as he laid her back on the bed.

Major General Janice Bremer

Off: I want to say thanks to everyone for welcomeing me back after my long vacation. I also wanted to say thanks to Admiral Bremer for letting me stay after coming back late. I can't wait for this mission.

On:

Lt. Coleman went to the Main Science Lab to get some of his equiment for the Yorktown. He walked in and saw Lt. Gilmore in there working on some things for the Station. She greeted him with her usual warm smile.

"Hello, Lt. Gilmore. How are you today?" asked Coleman.

"I'm fine. And You?" said Gilmore.

"I'm pretty good. I'm heading over to the Yorktown after talking with Commander Mark. Do you know my Science Kit is?" said Coleman, while he was looking around the lab.

"I think you left it over on the main computer console. But, it might be the Storage somewhere. So, I thought you transfered to the Greensboro. Why did y ou come back?" Gilmore said.

"Well, the Greensboro is a fine ship with a fine crew, but, Starbase 400 has become home for me. And everyone on the station is kind of like my family. I couldn't stand being away for long. So, I contacted Starfleet Command and finally they granted my request about a week ago and I got the next transport to here and here I am." said Jonathan.

"Well, that's good. Welcome back Lt. Well, don't you have to go and see Commander Mark before heading over to the Yorktown? I think they might be leaving in the 20 or so minutes." said Gilmore.

"Ok. I found my kit, so I better be off. See you later Ariel." said Coleman. Then, Coleman walked out of the Main Lab doors and headed towards Commander Mark's Office.

=/\=10 Minutes Later=/\=
Commander Mark's Office

When Lt. Coleman reached Commander Mark's office, he pressed the bell padd on the side and the doors opened and Commander Mark was at his desk. He was just about to leave for the Yorktown. Then, Lt. Coleman walked in and said hello.

"Commander Mark, Lt. Jonathan Coleman reporting in for duty. I was told to report to you sir." said Jonathan.

Tag Commander Mark.

OFF

<SB Bremer Quarters>

On:

Janice sat on the edge of the unmade bed, a bottle of fine American Bourbon Whiskey that had been given to them for a wedding present, by someone who did not know the two of them well enough to know that Mike would have considered it an insult
broken it over their head. Slowly she turned the bottle in her hand read the label out loud
“W.L. Weller Special Reserve Bourbon. Award winning “ wheated” Kentucky Bourbon ……enjoy the finest bourbon W. L. Weller and sons
ever made. “

It was a priceless bottle of fire filled amber liquid that fearful dark moment she could have easily drained.
She hated Acreman for what he was doing to her, and hated Janeway in turn for allowing him to do it.
Draining that bottle would have felt good.

She held it up and admired the priceless liquid that was more than a mild obsession of her; it was an escape.
An escape from her painful reality into that wonderful cloudy, dulled state of mind where all her problems were just out of reach.

She open opened the bottle and inhaled the warm Earthy fragrance. It would have been so easy to put it to her lips and forget her troubles, and she wanted too, so very badly that she almost could not resist the temptation.

She sat staring into that bottle as if she was staring into the abyss looking for the strength she once possessed as a cold, calculating Marine officer, but another voice told her that giving into that temptation came with its own cost: Loosing her husband and her family, she found something else:

Her desire not to hurt the ones she loved, Mike and her family.

She stood from the bed, carrying the bottle with her to the sink, turned the bottle upside down , and watched as every drop of the liquid drained in to it.

She was distracted only by the bed room door opening. “ Janice ..” Mike’s voice trailed off.

“ Zeus. “

She looked up at him, her blue-green eyes filled with tears, he walked over to her.

“Are you ok?” He asked her looking at the overturned priceless bottle of bourbon sitting upside down in the sink, and grabbing on to her.

Janice nodded. “I’m didn’t drink any Mike.” She looked into his eyes.

Mike breathed a visible sigh of relief, “ I know.” He held her back and looked deeply back into her eyes, which were clearer then he had seen in years, maybe she had indeed channeled back the strength of her f inner self.

She picked up the Padd from the beside that she guessed he must of came back for.
“ Mike , I know you are not going to like this , but I am going to contact my father and ask him for help.”

Mike nodded, she was right he was not pleased to hear her say that, but he knew Vice Admiral Chricton knew Janeway as well as he did himself or better and would be of help.
“ Do what you think is best. I have to go back.” He said giving her kiss on the forehead, and taking the Padd in his hand, and then releasing her, as he left the room he briefly turned back.
“ Janice I am very proud of you, pouring out that bottle means a lot to me, it means that committed to our family.”

She smiled. Maybe it was the show of commitment he needed from her she didn’t know.

<^> Major General Bremer to Communications <^>

<^> Go ahead General <^>

<^> I need to locate Vice Admiral Simon Chricton, and open a channel to him as soon as you know his whereabouts. Patch it to my office. <^>

Leaving the bed unmade she picked up her jacket , and put it on, and fixed her make up.

Fueled by the passion of her love for her family, she threw her back into the messy closet, took a last look into the mirror and spoke to her own reflection :
“ Acreman you are dealing with a damned General now.”

<A few moments later Executive’s office>

“ Dad, I am not needed at SB 503, its just Acreman playing God."

" Janice Gods and Generals is not a came for the mother of three children I have told you this before."
Janice’s father stared back at her . She had never asked him to interfere in her career before, not even once.
“ Janeway won’t like being second guessed, and I can not promise anything.”

“Thank you Dad.” She smiled at him.

The admiral rolled his eyes “ Stand bye Janice.”

The moments Janice waited for her father staring at the black screen waiting for her father were worse then those she had spent on Raeya 3 waiting for the verdict during her 3rd Court Marshall proceedings. She found herself in almost trans like state unable to think of anything else for the moment, but what would happen to her family if her father was not able to convince Admiral Janeway to change her mind.

The door chimed

"Enter " she said with out looking up to see who it was it was.

"Janice." Jo Ann Worth stood in front her desk.

Janice smiled at her friend. " Hey." She knew that what she did not say would speak volums to her true friend.

Jo Ann nodded " Any chance of getting it changed? "

" Dad is working on it . " Janice said, biting her bottom lip. " You know its funny. I have faced down Gorn, Breen, NOS, Pirates and more, but I have never been so frightened as I have in my life right now."

Jo Ann moved around the desk, and took Janice's hand in her own. " I'll wait with you."

After a couple of moments of deadly silence the screen changed again to her father's face.

" Janice. He gave her a smile reassuring smile. " She is resending the orders right now, Bremer should receive confirmation within the hour. "

Janice choked back her tears " Thank you so much dad."

Janice's father shook his head " Don't thank me just yet, Acreman is not going to be happy with you ."

" He never is..." She replied to her father with a knowing sigh.

"He's going to be gunning for you and he's got friends. " The Admiral's stare was piercing and his serious tone of voice made his message crystal clear " but.. enough of that.. be careful , take care of my grandchildren, say hello Mike for me pet the dog, and give your grandmother my regards."

"I will dad. Thank you again... I love you." She was beginning to tear up again.

"Janice I love you too. One thing Janeway wanted to me to advise you to give retirement from the Marines some serious consideration..... ..because if something happened your children could loose both their parents ...."

". and she would hate for that to happen..." Janice finished her sentence "She has said as much to Mike on several occasions."

" I am not telling the two of you how to run your career or raise your family... but it might not be a bad idea.." Janice and Mike both knew Admiral Chricton's feelings on the matter, but he would reiterate anyway as many times as the opportunity presented itself , and this was one of those times.
"You could stay right there on the Star Base, with your husband and open a cafe, teach school, write books, go take a job at FNS or just take care of your children. Your mother would not worry near as much, and neither would I."

"Dad, I promise you I will think about it , and I will even talk to Mike about it, but right now.. " She smiled.

" I know ..you have to go...Chricton Out." The screen went black. She had avoided Acreman this time, next time she might not be so lucky.

Janice and Jo Ann hugged, staying together as long as they had in the SFMC was rare, but somehow they managed it.

"I need to tell Admiral Bremer. " Janice said still sobbing a little, Jo Ann nodded , and then left her as quickly as she had come in.

She needed a moment to compose herself before showing up in office.

<Admiral Bremer's office -5 minutes later>

Mike had pulled her into his lap and for a second they just held each other. The last 18 hours had been nearly a nightmare:
The baby awake all night , the sudden appearance of the Gorn, Transfer orders for Janice, but for now things were calm.
"You know how I feel love, but your father has a point, maybe we should discuss it."

Janice kissed him " I have about an hour before the Intrepid is ready you want to discuss business or make out?"

"Discuss Later" He answered and then kissed her.

Off:
Major General Janice Denise Fultain- Bremer
Executive Officer, Star Base 400

<USS Intrepid>
<90 minutes after being in Admiral Bremer's office>
On:

“ Intrepid classes are junk Worth remember that. “ Janice said to her aide, as she took the command chair. She knew the specifications well, so while her brain told her that the Intrepid was indeed a very capable class of ship, her heart
was with her precious Europa class: The USS Durga. “ The class Intrepid class is meant for nice Fleeter missions, not Marine patrols in hostile areas. “

Worth only smiled “ Noted Ma'am.” Janice was regaining some of her sarcasm and whit.

“ Helm, Take us away from the Star Base at impulse, and
scan the area for ships, warp signatures, anything that does not look right , but stay close to 400. ”

“Aye Ma'am.”

Her brother entered the bridge and took his usual place behind her chair, Dufray's sudden transfer left Chricton in charge of the Marines it was not a responsibility that Janice or Bremer was sure he was ready for, but circumstances left them no choice; he was there so he was it .
“Marine teams ready ma'am”

Janice looked back with a nod. “ Good Job Captain. “

“ Will we pursue?” He asked her as he took up a casual position holding on to the back of her chair.

“ No. Just patrol for now. I don't want to be led off into a trap with the Gorn Fleet waiting for her at the end. “ She replied “ Death maybe something we have to be prepare to face at any day..little brother but it won't be today if I can help it.”

Chricton knew that Dufray's transfer had hit his sister hard, but she seemed to be recovering and was very clear headed. “ What are you orders for the Marines?”

“ Stand ready. I am going looking for them but if they come back to our yard, I want you to be ready to board their ship.” She replied.
“A boarding party on a Gorn ship? “ Chricton could not believe his ears.

“ We will disable them and board, taking every Gorn on their vessel into custody, the easy way.” She winked at her little brother, to reassure him that she had no intentions of taking unnecessary chances.
“Transporters.” Chricton grinned. Her take over of the tree
“You got it! “ She smiled back “ It will force the Gorn to deal with the Federation for their return. Either the hostilities will end or they won't get back any prisoners.” She said in her soft, Southern accented voice, as she shook her hair off her shoulders.

Major General Janice Bremer

On:

<SB400, Ops>

Mike was standing at the Tactical Two station, he was looking at the data
gathered on the Gorn ship which tried to attack the station. The Intrepid
had already launched. The Pegasus and Yorktown would be leaving soon. USS
Luna was orbiting Kaleb IV and of course the station was still on alert.

Yellow Alert was set though out the station. Security and Marine teams
were patrolling the Station, fighters were patrolling the system, and
inbound vessels were rerouted to keep them out of harm's way...just in
case.

The last vessel to arrive at the Station was the USS Van Helder, a Miranda
class ship that was used for personnel transport now. Faster than a
runabout and capable of carrying more people, the ship had been pulled out
of Mothballs after the Dominion war to run people here and there, across
the Federation to their new assignments.

Today, the Van Helder was bringing four new crew members to SB400. As they
stepped out of the turbolift into Ops, the crew all turned and looked,
taking them in. One of them stuck out...a short Human male in a Starfleet
uniform with Commander pips. It wasn't so much his height that made him
stand out, it was the fact he only looked eleven years old...

Commander Matthew Selar had faced...grief and even discrimination since
transporter accident that regressed him to the age of eleven. While he
mind and ability to do his job, some seemed to believe he shouldn't or
couldn't be allowed to do so. Having known him for several years, Mike
stepped up and offered Selar the position of Chief Flight Control Officer
on SB400.

The two men shook hands, "Welcome to Starbase 400 Matt" Bremer said.

Stepping forward were First Lieutenant Walsh the new Marine Corps CO.
Walsh was a very capable officer, both in combat and behind the desk with
organization. Mike needed a man like that since most of the Station's
Marines had been transfered...some with Major General Dufray, some to DS5,
and some to the USS Hamburg. Bremer knew that Walsh would be able to take
the remaining men into combat as a very tough combat unit, but he would
also be the man to find and bring aboard new Marines. "Welcome aboard
Starbase 400" Mike said has he shook his hand.

Next was the new Chief Strategic Operations Officer, Lieutenant Leon `Lee`
Pike. Lee was a man that Mike hadn't met before. He had come very well
recommended by his previous CO. The one thing that stuck out in Mike's
mind was the sheer size of Lee. A well build Human, a man Mike wanted on
his side in any fight for sure. "Welcome aboard Lieutenant" Mike said as
he shook his hand.

Finally was the NCO of the group, Engineer`s Mate Petty Officer 1c
Wougwses Muuyaw. Muuyaw was the first new Engineering crew member aboard
the Station in a long time. Engineering and Operations were still lacking,
so any help would be wonderful. As he shook his hand, "Welcome aboard
Petty Officer Muuyaw"

Mike stepped back and addressed all four men, "I'm sure you all had a
chance to read the current situation report. Needless to say, your help
will be invaluable in this mission. The Intrepid is already out, and the
Pegasus and Yorktown will be departing soon. We'll rendezvous at the Gorn
border before moving in to locate the base constructing the protomater
explosives. Mr. Selar will be aboard the Yorktown at the conn, Petty
Officer Muuyaw will be assigned to the Engineering team there. Mr. Pike
and Mr. Walsh will be aboard the Pegasus with me. We'll be departing
within the hour.

Mike nodded to the new members of the Starbase 400 family as they turned
and took a quick self tour of Ops. As Mike looked back at the Tactical two
screens, he was handed a PADD by Petty Officer Tara, he Yeoman. Glancing,
Mike smiled tapped a few commands into the panel.

< USS Intrepid >

Janice sat in the command chair, sipping hot tea to keep herself awake.
She was finding it hard, partly because Brian did not sleep through the
night, and partly the patrol scans were coming up empty.

She could get a couple of pilots out of the Marines on board , and send
out some long range recon , but there really was no point. The Gorn were
long gone. The best the Marines could do at this point, was keep an eye
out and keep them from coming back.

" Major General you have an incoming communication from the Star Base.
Priority channel."

" In the ready room. " She would not refer to it as her ready room,
because the Intrepid was not really her ship. Her ship was the Europa
class incarnation of Durga, the Goddess of War. " Chricton you have the
bridge" She said and stood up, carrying her tea cup with her. If Mike was
using a priority channel it had to be serious.

She moved behind the desk, and sat down in the chair. It was not
comfortable, like her own chair on the Durga but she would get used to it.
The Durga would take a long time to repair , if it ever could be.

She typed in her security code and Mike 's face appeared on the screen.,
and he did not look pleased.

" Hello, Admiral . " He was using a secure channel , formality was required.

" Major General. " He replied with a nod. " Anything going on?" Mike
looked concerned.

"Its quite out here. The Gorn are long gone." She replied " We are tracing
their warp signature patterns, but they are well scrambled. "

She watched him nod. " Pretty much what I expected. " He sighed " I miss
you already. "

She smiled back at him " I miss you too. Any news from Star Fleet Command? "

" I have a couple from McLaughlin, and Acreman it seems they are not
totally pleased with you getting your father ask Admiral Janeway to
countermand the transfer orders " He chuckled. "I really don't care if
they are angry Janice, they were unprofessional to try such a thing. "

" I don't think it was McLaughlin as much as it was Acreman." She took
another sip of her tea.

" Agreed. " He smiled a little " I am glad to see you drinking tea instead
of all that coke. Its not good for you , or Brian... and you really should
eat more.." He was referring to the fact that she was still breast
feeding.

She sat down the tea cup "I know." She replied and then quickly changed
the subject to avoid a lecture about her eating habits , and coke " What
is the latest from Raeya 3?"

Bremer flashed a glare in her direction, knowing that she was changing the
subject "Nothing yet, but I would not be surprised at all if this incident
did not result in a court marshal for Rae Ann. No one can find any good
reason why she shot down a civilian ship."

Janice sighed, she knew how those Raeyans worked " I am sure Charles will
get to the bottom of it. " She prayed so for George Ann's sake. No matter
how much they fought she knew that the Worth sisters loved each other very
much.

" I have every faith in Dufray to uncover the truth." Janice was worried
about her friend, and Bremer was worried about her, and under normal
circumstances he would have let her go spend a few days on Raeya 3 helping
settle the situation there, but with the Gorn attack he just could not
afford to have her gone. " Have you deployed fighters for long rang recon?
" He asked .

" I wanted to be ready for quick take down if we found the trail. " She
replied.

He nodded " Well, you have been scanning for a while, you might try it ,
but I agree that they are gone. If you don't find anything in the next
hour hold position and the Pegasus and Yorktown will arrive about 0600
hours tomorrow morning. We can start fresh then before proceeding to the
border. I know you are tired. "

" Aye. " She acknowledged the orders , and his correctness that she was
tired with a single word. Mike why do you think they chose this random hit
and run attack? It is just not normal for the Gorn." She asked

" I don't know we are going to have to wait see . I will see you soon. Oh
yeah...you're out of uniform."

Janice looked down at her uniform, saw that everything looked in place,
she then patted herself...her hips, chest, looked at her boots...all
seemed right. Mike smirked as she checked, smirked more when she patted
her chest 'was she thinking she didn't put her top back on after the
baby's last feeding' he thought, then smiled....Janice though looked
confused.

"You're missing one of these" Mike held up another silver star, a third.
Janice looked surprised, confused, happy all at once. This meant she was
now a Lieutenant General, the first in the 4th Fleet. "Congratulations
Lieutenant General Janice Fultian-Bremer, your promotion as come though."
He smiled "I put you in after the Pegasus rescued the Durga, Starfleet
Command just now approved.

Janice was still surprised..."Thank you sir...honey."

"I expect you in proper uniform the next time I see you"

"Aye sir" Janice said with a smile...then a yawn.

"Get some rest, I love you. Bremer out." He said and then the screen went
blank.

Janice drained her tea cup. The sofa in the CO's office looked really
good, but she did not have time for a nap. She had the replacator make her
the needed stars, 'corrected' her uniform, straitened it, then returned to
the Bridge of the Intrepid.

Jonathan went to the Transporter Room to get ready for Transport to the Yorktown. He had met with Commander Mark and he told him to head over to the Yorktown to get ready for depature. When he entered the Transporter Room, he was asked where he wanted to be transported and he answered the Yorktown. When he got to the pad and turned around, the transporter chief said energize and he was transported to the yorktown, where he was greeted by Commander Breamer.

"Welcome to the Yorktown. I would like you to work at the Science station and help coordinate with tatical to help make sure that we don't miss anything." said K'Temoc.

"Yes, Sir." said Jonathan. Then, they both headed towards the nearest turbolift and headed to the bridge so that everything could be set up and so that they could head out.

"I'm sure you all had a chance to read the current situation report. Needless to say, your help will be invaluable in this mission. The Intrepid is already out, and the Pegasus and Yorktown will be departing soon. We'll rendezvous at the Gorn border before moving in to locate the base constructing the protomater explosives. Mr. Selar will be aboard the Yorktown at the CONN, Petty Officer Muuyaw will be assigned to the Engineering team there. Mr. Pike and Mr. Walsh will be aboard the Pegasus with me. We'll be departing within the hour."

Hazel colored eyes remained transfixed upon Admiral Bremer; unflinching, unmoving as each, strangely radiant orb surveyed the stone-like features of the flag officer's expression of chiseled neutrality. The Admiral bore minor inflections of the emotions held captive within, each feeling decidedly veiled beneath a facade of a rigid professional decorum. The hazel colored eyes bore into the high ranking official, attempting to ascertain any reference and/or hint as to how the Admiral may feel at the current juncture in time; however, all attempts were futile at best and for only the second time in the entirety of his Starfleet career, the young man was left null and void. Skilled and adept at observing even the most minuscule of details, this honed skill had only faltered once before, leaving an unknowing that was best comparable to that of a blanket of darkness where all was unseen and worse, unknown.

Petty Officer First Class Wougwses Muuyaw prided himself on the ability to read other people; it was a trait and/or quality that had been fine tuned for much of his life. It provided an invaluable characteristic, promoting a better knowledge of those that were interacted with on a daily basis. Coined as the silent observer, there was not the slightest of details that did not provide some form of insight into the varying personalities of his peers. Hand gestures, posture, facial expressions even the passive flare of a nostril could provide the necessary information on how a particular individual may handle a specific situation. For Humans, at least ninety percent of communication was displayed through the use of body language; a mere ten percent was conducted verbally. Some where better at shielding their inner emotions and feelings through the use of words, others not so much. Admiral Bremer, he played in predominance quite well...even for a Human, Klingon and Vulcan hybrid.

Wougwses knew very little about this new Commanding Officer; however, he could not subdue the internal jest that the Klingon and Vulcan traits of the man where in a state of constant flux against one another; only subtly distracted by the oddity that was the Human genome. Not that such was of any concern to Wougwses; as a non-commissioned crewman, there would be far little interaction between himself and this particular officer. Rather, the two would hardly ever come to pass one another on a monstrosity of a duty-station such as this.

An Immense-class station, Starbase 400 would introduce Wougwses into his fourth official posting as a Starfleet enlisted crewmember. And, although he had hardly been onboard for more than fifteen minutes, already the experience was providing a caliber of unrelenting pleasure.

The young man had listened to the Admiral's instruction and was quick to respond. He had remained taut and poised as the man spoke, posture at attention yet relaxed enough to show the proper training and experience within the field; it would also convey the appropriate level of respect between officer and crewman. A solid nod was cast in the direction of the Admiral, the professional demeanor of the engineer offset only by the playful juvenile of the boy's thick, brown curly locks that moved with such a gesture.

There was no need for further instruction, the four new crewmembers were quickly dismissed, taking with them their respective orders. They all had at least one hour to report into the indicated duty-stations; such time would provide Wougwses to check in with the Command Master Chief and the Quartermaster for all of the necessities of a proper coming onboard.

Turning on his heal, Wougwses quickly re-entered the turbolift and called out for the appropriate deck of the Command Master Chief's ready room; one hour was not an extended amount of time to complete what was necessary; but would provide a decent introduction between the two non-commissioned crewman.

As Peter beamed from the Van Helder, he saw the Operations center bustleing with activity. In front of him he saw an Admiral. Admiral Bremer, the ledgendary admiral who had served during the inception of the fopur fleet.

Peter saw Admiral Bremer shaking the hand of the apparently young Commander Selar. While Peter, had read the mans file and knew that he had been made younger due to a freak accident Peter doubted whether the man would have the motor reflexes to be a helmsmen, such reflexes were developed with age, also he would be a liability in combat due to his as yet underdeveloped musculature youthfull frame.

Perhaps Peter wouldn't be out of place hinting that the commander take up some military training to put a layer of muscle back on to make up for his small size in combat.

The admiral came up to Peter and stuck out a hand, Peter shook it in typical fashion and when his hand was released in came to his head in a salute, "Welcome aboard
Starbase 400" the admiral said, Peter nodded in appreciation "Thank you sir it is an honour to be here."

The admiral moved on to talk to the chief strategic operations officer, a formidably built human, perhaps if things were different he would have been an excellent addition to the marine corp, however he was a fleet officer.

The admiral then turned to the group of new arrivals, "I'm sure you all had a
chance to read the current situation report. Needless to say, your help
will be invaluable in this mission. The Intrepid is already out, and the
Pegasus and Yorktown will be departing soon. We'll rendezvous at the Gorn

Officer Muuyaw will be assigned to the Engineering team there. Mr. Pike
and Mr. Walsh will be aboard the Pegasus with me. We'll be departing

Peter saluted, "Yes sir." glad to recieve the position of acompanying the admiral on Pegasus, Peter knew that the pegasus was a Galaxy dreadnought, Peters cousing Patrick was a student of what he called the Galaxy familly of starships yet he had never served on a dreadnought. Peter knew that there was very few in service, the dreadnought required a skilled team of engineers, some of starfleets best were needed to manage the difficult warp core processes. Thats all he knew on the matter.

Peter decided straight away to head toward the docking bay, where the Pegasus was docked, he could get used to parts of the station on the way.

Matthew stared at the data pad in his hand as he pondered the offer Starfleet had sent him now; someone had finally asked him to return. To most, he was a joke as young as he looked and the body he now had. And while he had been declared fit to be back in the surface he doubted he would never see the Command chair again.

It was hard to believe; 5 years ago he had a ship of his own. A family of sorts and all of it gone in one shot leaving him to pick up the pieces. He could have stayed in the fleet and taken a desk job but he didn't want to fly a desk again. Having been more or less given a second chance again he had retired his Commission and stood down from the Falcon.

Now 5 years later, having more or less enjoyed the fact of being a kid and going back to school a bit he was ready to re-enter the fleet. But he was still unsure if he wanted to actually be back in Starfleet, and then an old friend had visited him and convinced him to return to the fleet and active service.

(Starbase 1)

Matt silently stared into the mirror wondering what was going to happen, the solid pips on his neck felt like they weighed a ton. Though he was one shy of captain, it felt like he was putting a ton of stuff back on even though it was only a uniform. Snapping the final pip onto his neck collar he turned and headed out the door of his apartment with his travel bag over his shoulder.

Within a couple hours he was on Starbase 1 and ready to transfer to the transport ship that would take him to Starbase 400.

"Can I help you?" the officer handling the transporter controls spoke as Matt entered the transporter room.

"Yes Lt, I Commander Selar, I'm supposed to be transported to the Kiraz for transport to Starbase 400," he responded as he handed the transfer orders to the Lt.

Wolf turned and looked Matthew over a bit in surprise, looking from his collar to the kid before him unblinking for a few minutes as he tried to decide if it was a joke or not. A glance at the pad proved who he was, but he still couldn't believe who stood before him and how had a kid gotten to that rank for someone who shouldn't be that far out of grade school? "The Kiraz is just getting ready for departure, I've notified them that you're ready to transport over."

(USS Kiraz)

The transporter chief blinked looking up in surprise as the child materialized on the pad, he could not believe his sigh and the sight of the 3 solid pips on his neck made him take a double take. "Welcome aboard the Kiraz Commander Selar," the officer finally spoke after taking a moment to let it sink in.

"Thank you Lt," Matt spoke as he picked his bag back up and headed out of the transporter room after finding out where his quarters were located. He was used to the strange looks he had been getting for the last few years. It wouldn't be the first nor the last time it happened.

(Now)

Matthew felt the eyes of the officers around him on him, he felt a bit uneasy of being amoungst a new batch of transfers. The rank on his collar felt even more out of place, it had been almost 5 years since he had seen active starship duty and other then some refresher courses it had been almost 9 years since he had regularly piloted a starship.

"Good to see you again Admiral," he spoke after Mike had done his speech welcoming them aboard as he let the breath out that he had been holding in.

"Welcome back to starfleet," Mike responded before turning back to give orders to everyone else leaving Matthew to his thoughts and to deal with getting things ready.

Matthew made a quick mental note to familiarize himself with the defiant controls on his way over to the docking controls.

OOC: Who let the kid on board.

Well everyone it begins, the bio has not been posted to the website yet but heres a rough downdraft of the story. Matthew used to be in Command of his own ship, a R&D ship, and during its last mission under his command they were testing out a new transporter system that would in theory allow people to be transported out of nebulas that inhibited transporters and warp drive.

They had not been approved for human testing yet, but an accident left his shuttle drifting in a nebula a few months later where he was unconscious. The transporter was used with bad results, when he re-matieralized he had regressed to about 11 years old both in mind and body. He does retain adult memories and such but well at times has been accused of being imature etc, so feel free to kid around or bug him lots.

There will be more coming soon, and I need to get in touch with our base CMO.

|| Starbase 400 || Command Master Chief's Ready Room ||

"So you've transferred over from the USS Tomcat have you?" The feminine voice filled the silent air that had so comfortably enveloped much of the Command Master Chief's Ready Room long before his arrival. It was an older voice, filled with a wisdom inflected through an unmistakably raspy characteristic; almost as if the voice itself had been pushed to the brink of absolute exhaustion. Oddly enough, it appeared to suit this particular woman quite well; the voice tailored to its master in the most intimate of ways. She was a reflection of a poised professionalism Wougwses had not yet encountered within the Enlisted Affair's Division. Her uniform had been pressed, not one wrinkle had been left unattended. Each hem and stitch of the uniform remained intact and not frayed. The woman's appearance was well kept, almost as trim and clean as her uniform; had it not been for the silvery gray hair and numerous wrinkles, she would have exuded an aura about her that spoke exceptional youth. It was the eyes, however, that were quite stunning. A radiant sky blue, they were a stark contrast to the pale white of her leathered skin. Wougwses surmised that this woman had navigated through a great many years of dedicated service as a Starfleet crewmember. She was, undoubtedly, coming to the end of her tenure; perhaps looking forward to an impending retirement. Wougwses shrugged internally, whatever the case, he would be under her indirect charge for who knew how much longer.

"Yes, Ma'am." He replied, voice soft and subdued.

She nodded, tapping upon the glossy surface of the data PADD. There was a momentary pause before she placed the device aside and sat back in the leather padded chair positioned behind the desk, half-arch in shape. "Well, I will say it's quite nice to have you onboard, Mr. Muuyaw. You've garnered quite a reputation throughout the division."

Wougwses's eyes remained transfixed upon a point on the bulkhead just behind the Command Master Chief, poised on an invisible mark, a skill that had been so expertly taught through basic training. He could not help but cock his head to the side in a demeanor of inquiry. "How do you mean, Ma'am?"

"Well," she started, the word inflected with a coy rasp. "I won't lie to you, Petty Officer, you came highly recommended for this particular position. After speaking with your immediate supervisor onboard the Tomcat, it became apparent that you would do quite well onboard Starbase 400; perhaps even thrive in an environment such as this." She paused, interlacing fingers from either hand with the other, pressing them in such a way as to steeple each finger against the other. "You have served on three other vessel's prior to the Tomcat, after contacting each of your former superior officer's, they all had similar recommendations. I almost thought it was just a little too good to be true, but perhaps that will become a bit more clear in the future."

Wougwses nodded, swallowing hard. She must have been referring to his service jacket; which, up and to this point, had been exemplary with glowing letter's of recommendation and references, and even a few highly-deserved field service commendations.

"Our engineering department has been having difficulty remaining staffed. Starfleet Command believes that it is necessary to send highly trained and capable engineer's elsewhere throughout the fleet. You will be supplementing the minimal enlisted crew that are currently on staff for this particular department. I understand that your specialization is communications and electronics; however, due to the limited 'man'-power we currently have, I feel it necessary that you expound upon your skills and expertise. Understood?"

"Yes, Ma'am." He replied, nodding in conjunction.

"Good," she retrieved the data PADD that she had discarded earlier in the meeting and started tapping several commands into the touch screen interface. "Your immediate supervisor is Lieutenant Isis Torren; she is an exceptional Chief Engineer, but is currently on loan and will not be staying with us for long. I expect you to work with her quite closely and garner a professional relationship. She needs much assistance." The Command Master Chief stood and came around the desk, still carrying the data PADD. "I have acknowledged your arrival onboard the station and have uploaded a welcome packet onto this device. The Quartermaster has been alerted of your arrival and will square away some quarters for you straight away."

"Thank you, Ma'am. I appreciate that." Wougwses stated, continuing to stare at the invisible point.

"Not a problem. Please feel free to come see me with any questions, comments and/or concerns during your stay. My door is always open." She paused for a moment, allowing her statement to sink in. "Now, I understand that you have been dispatched to the Yorktown to supplement their engineering team while we muddle through this Gorn issue. You're dismissed for now, I would suggest checking in with the Yorktown's Commanding Officer, Commander Bremer, to receive further orders. Good luck and welcome onboard Mr. Muuyaw."

Wougwses stood to immediate attention, clicking either heal together before turning on one and leaving Command Master Chief's ready room.

Crystallynne sat down in what was now her office. She and Miranda had spent the better part of three hours discussing things before Miranda had left. Miranda had left several orders or requests that had left Crystallynne questioning if she had made the right decision in this move to this base.

She was not sure what to think of the requests.

"Dont treat him as you would a regular patient, he is not one that you probe with questions, you give him something and see where it leads. It will often be non-linear in how it comes but he will talk."

That was what Miranda had told her, but that was not going to work for her. She didnt work with the idea of being friends with your clients. She would have sent the Captain to one of her assistants to do the counseling on her 'friends' .

To her it was a conflict of interests.

"Now I have to figure out how to help when MIranda has left instructions that if either Janice or Mike need her to contact immediately."

She sat back and stared out at the stars trying to puzzle what her next course of action was.

When she got there, she was disappointed that Dow was going to be on the other ship. She hadn't talked to him for a long while. She passed by Bremer with a nod and took her station. She did a quick system check to make sure that the short and long range sensors were working and checking the weapons systems too among other things. She refused to leave it up to the Engineering crew. Once done, she spoke to Bremer, "Sir, can we expect trouble?" She wanted to know if there was a possibility that they may find themselves in battle.

She had met with the Command staff briefly after she had transferred, so it wasnt a first meeting at least.   Yet it was going to be the first time she had actually been active with a major mission.

She was not sure what to expect.   She walked on to the bridge and took in the scene, and  waited a moment to decide if this was the type of ship where she at least the first time showing up on the bridge needed to wait for a formal acknowledgement of her presense.   She moved though to her station, she listened to the converstations that were taking place around her and waited to slip into the converstation.

On:

Janice just watched Sweed exit, obviously he had found a new enlisted drinking companion, and she was glad of it. Her brother's quick transfer was a shock, but that was the life of the Marines. You went were you were needed, and right now he was needed elsewhere.

“All right inform Lt. Walsh we will be meeting the Pegasus and the Yorktown on the Gorn border at 0600. Tell him I expect perfection, and if he gives me less, I will have him transferred to Star Fleet.”

Worth overhearing the General's threat to the butter bar giggled under her breath. It was going to be interesting to see the interaction between him and the cranky sleep deprived Mommy-General.

Once again she stood from the command chair

“ I am going to get some sleep , every one try to get some. Worth coordinate that.” She snapped with a yawn

“ Right on top of that General.” Worth replied quickly, and looked for replacements for anyone who had been on duty since the morning.

<Captain's quarters>

Janice hated the intrepid class for many reasons, but she was going to suck in her disdain for a while and borrow the Captain's Quarters for a shower, a call back home to the Starbase, and a nap. She entered the quite dark room, her arms folded, had it been her own home on Star Base 400, Marc would have been running everywhere, the baby crying the dog barking running after Marc, or chewing up something, Emmaline would be trying out her make up, and Becca waiting to ask her about clothes or hair styling, and K'wor wondering where his father was.

Admiral and Lt. General did not have quite well behaved children, so they did not live in a quite peaceful home. It was a little chaotic at times, could get quite messy with the twins running around, and the dog, and loud with movies, and cartoons, and music, but they both loved every chaotic sleep deprived moment they could spend together there with the children.

After the shower, she walked across the room still wearing nothing more than a large bath towel, wrapped around her and one on her head, but she decided before she

she sat down in front of the screen to contact her children she needed to put on a robe, so she draped a large terry cloth bathrobe around her, and then with

a bowl of cereal, and skim milk with strawberries, and bananas she contacted her children on SB 400.

“Mommie why do you have to stay there?” Marc asked and he and Emmaline looked back at her into the screen.

“ Mommie is working Marc, you two will be just fine with Granny.” She smiled back them. Her grandmother was holding the baby, and he was sleeping peacefully.

“Daddy had to go work too. “ The little boy said to her, pressing his head closer to the screen.

Janice moved her head close as well. “Yes I know that. We are working together. “

“Why can't we work with you mommy ? We miss you, and Mike was going to show us some fish. He said they were nice fish mommy, I wanted to see them.”

Emmaline said as she nudged her brother over slightly, and crowded in to get a better look at Janice. “ Mommie when are you and Mike coming home?”

“ Soon. Mike and I both will be home soon.” She touched the screen. “ Now Mommie has to go , mind your granny, and if you are good I will bring you back a surprise. “

The twins jumped gleefully. “ YAY A surprise!”

“ Mommie loves you two, and Brian and K'Wor and Becca, and Grammy , and Beauregard, but I have to go now. Good night .”

“Goodnight Mommie. We love you. “ Emmaline replied pouting.

“ Mommie. Wait .” Marc added.

“Hurry Marc.” Janice said

“Mommie can we have a cupcake?” Janice knew that her son was trying to scam a treat that likely he did not deserve.

“That's up to your Grammy..General Bremer.. err Mommie out.”

She smiled again as the screen went black. Maybe it would be a good time for her to contact Admiral Bremer with a status update.

She laughed, took another bite from her spoon, and then dropped the robe from her shoulders so that he would think she was only wearing a towel, and

opened the channel, before he appeared on the screen she sat up straight , sat the cereal bowl to the side, and assumed a serious demeanor.

“Admiral Bremer ” She said curtly in a professional tone of voice.

“Janice Bremer!!!!!!!!!!” She watched Mike's eyes go wide, and his masculine, handsome features blush over a little. “ You ....why are you dressed like that?”

He asked her pointing directly at the screen.

“ Like What? “ She asked pretending not to know what he was talking about .

“In...in... a towel...” He replied to her slowly.

“Oh!” She smiled, picking her cereal bowl back up. “ I just got out of the shower, and wanted to let you know the kids are ok.”

“ That's Great!” He nodded, and then added “ YOU TEASE! “

She shook her damp hair from the towel knowing that she had made him a little uncomfortable

“ Any new Intel to share?”

He shook his head, but his eyes were not on her face, and she could tell his mind was not on the Gorn at the moment.

Innocently she took a bite of her cereal.

He watched her raise the spoon to her lips “ Damn that looks .. realy ...good, Janice.

What are you eating?”

“Cereal.” She smiled, holding the bowl out for him to inspect the contents.

He nodded again. “ Nice. Well ...” He lifted his eyes back to hers “ Try to get a few hours sleep Janice. I ...have... I have to go and check something. “

“ I love you Admiral.” She said still smiling Innocently.

“ I love you too. Bremer out.”

Janice leaned back into her chair extremely happy that she could have that effect on him.
