History

The eldest child of two professors at the Université de la Polynésie Française, Titaina revealed herself to be a prodigy in a number of subjects. By the age of eighteen, Titania had earned a doctorate in both applied physics and fluid dynamics, and completed her third doctorate in number theory while simultaneously graduating from Star Fleet Academy. When she defended her thesis for her latest doctorate (entitled “The optimization of nonlinear functions using particle swarm methodology, with an emphasis on utilizing bioneural circuitry”), a member of the examination board, Commander Stanley Arvin, current Associate Chair of Robotics at the Daystrom Institute remarked “I expect you to be in my chair within the next fifteen years, Ensign.”

Despite her intelligence, Titania had a well rounded childhood. The primary reason for this was her grandmother, Commander Vaea Huta (ret), decorated both for her contributions in exploration and her meritorious service during the Dominion War. Titania’s grandmother ensured that Titania had time for traditional Polynesian sports and games. When, at the Titania competed in (and won) the Pétanque tête à tête World Championship for Youth in Belgium, her grandmother not only accompanied her granddaughter to the tournament, she also took her granddaughter on a tour of western Europe afterwards.

Titania’s suitemate and best friend at the Academy, Camille Martin, introduced her to the sport of ion surfing, and the two kept in touch even after they were assigned to different Task Forces. Titania had been serving on the Heyerdahl as its most junior commissioned science officer, where she was very happy with her burgeoning career, until the Battle of Round Top threw everything into disarray. In a blur of events, she found herself rescued by the Perenolde, where she was literally thrust into the position of the ship’s Chief Science Officer.
