Lieutenant Commander Andrew Harrington
Born on March 24th, 2348 to Phillip and Dorothy Harrington in Morgantown, West Virginia; Andrew was the only child of the two parents as following the birth of Andrew, Dorothy fell ill and was told that she would be unable to have any more children. This was a shock to his parents, but they said following that news that they would give everything they had to Andrew to ensure that he had what he wanted and that he could achieve whatever he put his mind to. Andrew attended school in Morgantown and spent time between there and Paris, where his father was based, most notably between 2356 and 2364 when his father was appointed as Secretary of Starfleet Intelligence in the then-President Forrest’s cabinet. This was the highlight of his father’s career and earned him a knighthood. Samuel loved the time that he could spent between his two homes, and it gave him the inspiration and desire to join Starfleet, not so much to follow in his father’s footsteps, but to make a difference in the world one day. It was at this moment, that his parents devoted their lives to making Andrew’s dream a reality.
When Andrew turned 18, he enrolled to go to the Academy, he wanted to be an officer, he wanted to one day command his own starship, and that was his goal. He spent hours upon hours studying and doing everything that he could to get the best results. He enjoyed the time he had with friends and was always there to support them and guide them, as much as they were there for him. It was those friendships that would be the guiding light for Andrew, not just during the academy days but onwards into his career. Following his graduation in 2370, Andrew was assigned to the USS Typhoon, working in the security department, starting out as a junior brig officer. The USS Typhoon was sent out on many varying missions, most of them were transporting criminals to penal colonies and wherever they were needing to be housed.
It was Andrew’s job to ensure that they were secure in their cells, but also that they were treated properly. He thrived in the role, and took on more responsibilities in the brig area, becoming Gamma Shift leader after twelve months on the Typhoon. While onboard, he became romantic with Samantha Clarke, a young Ensign who had been assigned to the medical department on the ship as well. She was in the class behind Andrew, and had only been recently assigned to the ship, but the two of them hit it off straight away. They were always seen together, and became a talking point around the ship. This didn’t faze Andrew, as he was purely in love with Samantha, so much so, that just prior to his departure from the USS Typhoon, he asked her to marry him. At the age of 25, he was engaged to marry Samantha. The only issue was that Andrew was being reassigned, while Samantha had another year on the USS Typhoon.
After his initial two years on the USS Typhoon, and having impressed his Commanding Officer, he was promoted to Lieutenant JG and reassigned to the USS Franklin, under the command of Captain Don Paulson, who would mould Andrew into a leader of men, assigning him to the Assistant role within the security department. Captain Paulson saw something in Andrew, and it was more responsibilities that allowed Andrew to keep his mind off missing his wife-to-be. It was only by luck that in 2375, that Samantha was offered a transfer to the USS Franklin, which she accepted and within weeks of her arrival; the two of them married on the ship. They would always be together now. Two long years apart, but together forever as Captain Paulson put it at the ceremony.
By now, Andrew was spending more time with the senior staff of the USS Franklin, and this put a strain as some days Andrew would be working 15-16 hours a day, and then one day; he was informed that he had to head back to Earth. His father, Sir Phillip Harrington, now aged 97, was in dire straits and doctors did not think that he would live any longer. Andrew, and Samantha, headed back to Earth in July 2377, to arrive to say goodbye to his father. Andrew arrived and less than 24 hours later, Sir Phillip passed away. Andrew took the rest of the year off from his duties, to spend the time with his mother; who now was 90 years old herself. He wanted the family time. It also put a spark into Andrew that he wanted to have children with Samantha.
Returning to the USS Franklin, he was informed that the USS Saratoga needed a new Chief of Security, and that Captain Paulson, who was good friends with Captain Rebecca Johannsson, put his name forward and that Captain Johannsson would be foolish not to request him for her ship. He was surprised but also excited for the next part of the journey.
Arriving on the USS Saratoga, the mood was very different to the USS Franklin, it was much more relaxed and laid-back; there was more shifts than the two that the Franklin ran, and it allowed Andrew more time to spend with his wife, and on his hobbies; even finding the time to have new hobbies in his life, including miniature railways; having developed a holodeck program where he can create and play with them. The Saratoga was assigned for the first two years on a scientific expedition around the Cardassian border…
TO BE CONTINUTED
Having spent the last eleven years on the USS Saratoga, Andrew felt that it was time for a change, he had worked his way up to being one of Captain Johannsson’s most trusted officers and had the time to be Acting Commanding Officer on a number of occasions. It was at this point that Captain Johannsson spoke with him and said that the Fourth Fleet, had some new commands being assigned to them, and that one of them was the USS Sentinel; which was looking for an Executive Officer. She encouraged Andrew, and Samantha to put in a transfer request. A new beginning would be a great point for the two of them, and she signed off on the request within a few hours. It was then all up to the Commanding Officer there on the USS Sentinel to determine if he (or she) wanted to have Andrew and Samantha onboard.
