Michael Alasdair Stuart was born on February 26th, 2233 in Edinburgh, Scotland where he was raised by his parents, Dougray and Catherine Stuart. Although born on Earth, Michael lived for a time on Tarsus IV with his mother, where he was one of nine surviving witnesses to the massacre of 2500 colonists by Kodos the Executioner.
Returning to Earth Michael excelled in primary school and enlisted in Starfleet at the age of Eighteen. Majoring in Advanced tactical thinking, Bridge crew prep, Navigation, and Astronomy. He was among the first students to outthink the Koybiashi Maru and earn high marks for critical thinking. Michael graduated with honors and a promotion to Lieutenant in 2254.
Stuart was assigned to the USS Farragut as an Engineer. While assigned to the Farragut, Stuart commanded his first planetary survey and survived a deadly attack that severely injured large portion of the Farragut’s crew. After the incident Stuart returned to Starfleet Academy as a assistant instructor. Students could either “think or sink” in his class, going so far as to give him the moniker ‘the thinking man’s rogue.’
In 2258 Stuart transferred to USS Britannia, serving as helmsman. During the battle with the Narada, the Britannia was destroyed and the surveyors were rescued by the USS Constitution, commanded by Robert April.
Six months after, in 2259. Michael is assigned to USS Excalibur under command of Captain Harris, serving as chief helmsman. For his actions in a war games trial gone wrong, Stuart is promoted to Lieutenant Commander. He serves with distinction aboard the Excalibur until Michael forcibly transferred off the Excalibur by Ronald Tracy in 2265.
Stuart’s first year aboard the Exeter is not a pleasant one. Already having a strong dislike to Tracy, Michael’s concern for the crew is more focused and attentive. But he makes the best out of a bad situation regardless.
